Our Story
The Cotton Emporium® story begins in a small town in the American South, where cotton was king. Our founder, Amanda, grew up on a cotton farm run by her family for generations. From a young age, she learned to appreciate the beauty and versatility of cotton fiber. She could often be found playing in the cotton fields as a child or helping her mother sew quilts, curtains, and clothing for the family from the soft cotton they grew.
As an adult, Amanda moved to the big city but found herself missing the simple comforts of home – especially the feel of natural cotton against her skin. She began designing and hand-knitting cotton sweaters in her free time, using skills passed down from her mother. Friends and family couldn’t get enough of these soft, breathable creations.
Soon Amanda decided to turn her passion into a business. She rented a small studio space and acquired vintage knitting machines to produce her sweaters on a larger scale. As demand grew, she partnered with a family-owned mill to source high-quality cotton yarns and opened her first retail store.
In 2005, the Cotton Emporium® was born. Amanda slowly grew her inventory to include not just sweaters, but dresses, cardigans, and accessories. She moved production into a larger facility and now sells nationwide online. But quality and comfort remain at the heart of everything we make.
